our summer in pictures

this is my latest photo project.

i am having so much fun with my 52 weeks project and i love the idea that it can easily become a book, so i've decided to use that same idea over the summer for something new.  thanks to pinterest (my latest obsession) i found this great idea for a summer activity list.  i decided to get back into digital scrapbooking (it has been a long time, definitely before mollie and possibly before miles, since i've done a layout) and create a scrapbook of our summer in pictures.

i made up our list and filled it with some bigger items (visit a children's museum, visit with cousins) but it is mostly small items that i think i'll actually be able to do.  needed to keep it easy and close to home.  i want this to be something i can actually finish.  our list has 24 items, 8 items for each month of summer.

i can't wait to see how this comes together!

i started a bit early.  so far we've accomplished item 9 on our list: make popsicles.  i know we'll do more popsicles throughout the summer, but it was a special treat to do this with ethan this past weekend.  i like to get one on one time with the kids every now and then and this was a nice way to spend it.

*all of the scrapbooking items used in these layouts are from the lilypad.

t-ball!

our next sport to try is t-ball.  ethan has been very excited to give this a try.  tonight was our first practice and the first game should be in the next week or two.

ethan seemed to have a really good time.  i know he enjoyed being able to visit with some of his school friends.

and he even got a few hits in and did a great job running the bases.   so proud of my guy for trying out a new sport.

i think i'm going to be a better t-ball mom than i was soccer mom too.  we were actually *almost* on-time tonight and prepared.

52 weeks: week 19

{first trip to the splash pad * may 24, 2011}

this picture was taken before we realized there were going to be awful tornadoes all through oklahoma and texas later that afternoon and into the evening.  coincidentally i also chose tuesday as a day to document in pictures...i am so thankful and our family was so lucky to be spared some of the awful things that other families had to deal with.  a friend of mine posted this link on facebook the other day and it makes you realize how things can really change in an instant.  our thoughts go out to the many, many other families who are now having to try to get their lives back to a new normal.

our book of the month: may

i just love seeing the boys enjoying one of my favorite books growing up!  it makes me happy to see them pick out the books that i loved to read and thankful that my parents did a great job in both reading to us and making sure that our books got saved so that my sister and i could share them with our children.

i would like to capture some of our favorite books over the summer, so here is our first.

this particular book is called barbapapa's ark.  it is a particularly earth-friendly book written in the 70's all about taking care of our earth and the animals, no hunting, you get the idea.

i still enjoy reading the book and probably could read it every day, but lance has stated he will not read it a second time (he got talked into it by ethan before he really knew what he was reading)...too hippie for him. ;)

a first ER visit

mr. miles had his first ER visit on mother's day...not the way i wanted to end mother's day...

i am impressed we had made it that long with miles.  he tends to be the less cautious one out of the bunch.  he took a little tumble off of the power wheels truck and hit the back of his head on the driveway.

so at about 10pm on sunday night, lance and miles were hanging out in the ER waiting room.  not a great place to be on a sunday night....it was completely full (they took the last seat!) and of course wasn't moving quickly at all.

at about midnight they made it to the back and it was around that time that miles started to perk up and lance was kind of wondering why he was even there with him.  based on his behavior and how he was responding the dr gave him a clean bill of health but did still do a ct scan just as a precaution.  miles was apparently a charmer throughout this process and was smiling and chatting with everyone.  he got the all clear from his scan also and they got to head home.

other than a rough monday (due to lack of sleep and a headache) miles is back to his crazy self.  but it did take a few years off my life :)

mother's day

wasn't quite what we expected with a sick little one and a trip to the ER for a different little one.

despite the craziness of the day, i am a lucky momma to have healthy, happy, silly children who fill my life with love and laughter.

bye bye binky....

oh, such a sad day for mr. miles (and momma!!) but we had to do it at sometime!  especially since he'll be three in august and is about to have his first dentist visit soon.  eek!

we have been talking up that the first time we go to the houseboat for the season, we would say bye-bye to the binky.  we were supposed to go last weekend, but the weather was AWFUL, so we got an extra week with the bink.  whew.  this week though, it was on.

we loaded up the family, even poor baby sis who wasn't quite feeling up to it and battling a virus for a quick trip out to say good-bye to the bink.  i had grabbed some wal-mart cupcakes earlier in the day to make the celebration complete.

the boys were both excited.  for good measure we let ethan throw a binky in too.  miles got the froggy binky though...they were these little nuk binkies that looked like a frog and a lion.  totally random, but miles was really attached to the frog!

everyone was excited about the binky in the lake.  and everyone was even more excited about the cupcakes afterwards.

and mr. miles, true to himself and surprising us when we think things will be the worst, did a great job his first night without froggy bink.  he only woke up once and didn't even ask about it all day.  so proud of my big boy.

52 weeks: week 15

{april 29, 2011}
we went to the local touch-a-truck event this past weekend.  the boys had a great time!!  and they both did really well even with the sirens and horns.  miles' favorite, definitely the fire truck and police car (no big surprise there...) and ethan's favorite was the navy tent, much to lance's dismay, he is even sporting a navy "tattoo" on his arm that he still can't stop talking about :)  he did do some pull-ups at the marine hummer too though :)  if i hadn't left my camera in the car there would be many more pictures...
