fall fun
fall is my absolute favorite season of the year! i love the colors, the crispness in the air (whenever it finally makes its way to oklahoma,) the clothes, the food, halloween and the pumpkins! we do our annual pumpkin patch trip at least once per season, sometimes more and follow up with the hay maze later in the year.
it was a beautiful sunday this past weekend. lance had to work most of the day and the kids were at each other's throats, so decided we needed to get out of the house to break up the long afternoon. it was perfect. the first year i actually got to sit down some. ahh, we are finally making it to the stage where i can take the kids out by myself and not run completely ragged. i did have my fill by the end of our visit, but it was still a great way to get the kids out and all of us in better moods. and of course we got lots of fun pumpkins for our front porch and for carving later this month.
this year ethan's class went to the hay maze as a field trip. this has been a tradition in our home since before we had kids. they have a big haze maze in a field with several campfires set out where you cook your own hot dogs and s'mores. you come home smelling like a campfire but it is totally worth it. we plan to make another trip back with the entire family.
miles and i will be going to the pumpkin patch this week and we will be getting ready to celebrate halloween night! looking forward to our little band of superheroes getting excited about candy and spookiness.

happy halloween!!
later on in the day we joined friends for a potluck dinner and then group trick-or-treat.
and then we ended the evening at grandmother and grandfather's house. our sweet little black cat would not stay still for one minute...she loved sharing all of the boys candy with others :)

our jack-o-lanterns
and only a day late...

i had really wanted to do jack-o-lanterns this year, but with the costumes, i was so busy we didn't ever get to do it before halloween. but who will ever know, that we did it just one day late. we still had a good time just the same and they'll still look cute sitting on our front porch.
we went to grandmother and grandfather's house to do the carving. ethan definitely wouldn't touch ANYTHING inside the pumpkin and almost cried when i got my hands dirty and kept telling me to wash them off. it was quite funny! he did stay there the entire time we worked on the pumpkins and was very excited to see them lit up. i'm glad we ended up doing it even if it was a bit late!

trick-or-treating!
it was a perfect fall night for some trick-or-treating with grandmother and a friend. after a bit of a timid start, ethan quickly got the hang of things and went right up to those doors and rang the bell. mr. miles had a great time again as he got to be held for pretty much the whole night. we still had to work on saying trick-or-treat (he said it only very quietly) and thank you (same thing). so hopefully next year, he'll get the hang of that.
we went to the same neighborhood we went to last year and there is one house that always decorates like crazy and is the spooky house. ethan wanted nothing to do with it last year. he was a little bit braver this year and at least let us take some pictures in front of it. i don't blame him though, it is kind of scary looking!

after we got home, grandmother and ethan checked out the candy and he actually ended up with a pretty good bit. i've already sampled some myself :)
