unplug for love.

i'm very excited to participate in the september unplug for love campaign.  i know i spend way too much time on my computer and phone.  i've made a concerted effort in the past few months to not bring my laptop home from work during the week.  i'm not at home for that many hours with the kids as it is and i need to be spending that time focusing on them and getting things ready for the next day...not staying up late looking at millions and millions of house pictures that i probably never will duplicate.

we spend our summer weekends at the lake.  neither of us bring our computers and our phones rarely have good service, so by default our time at the lake is spent together as a family.  it is much harder to do this at home when there are many more distractions and many more things to keep up with.  i love this list and hopefully i can do my best to keep up with it over the next month.

the days are getting cooler and it means we will not be going to the lake every weekend, there will be more and more rushing around and getting ready for ((gasp)) the holidays and finishing school projects.    i think this will be a fun project for our family...i want the kids to be a part of it.  i want to be able to really share in the little things of our days together.

thanks to adriel for sharing this!  looking forward to it!

thursday instagram round-up.

back to school!  summer's over and we are trying to get back into a routine.

i thought we could attempt a library trip so we could get those last few summer readings done.  silly me, we are still not old enough to do that yet.  i hadn't been for over a year because the last attempt was a disaster, in which at least 3 out of the 4 people there were in tears by the time we got into the car...i was one of them, i think only ethan escaped unscathed.  this time we were there for one hour.  we visited the bathroom no less than 4 times.  2 of those times to change a poo diaper, i had no wipes.  lesson learned, do not go to the library (or anywhere else for that matter) the day after loading up a 2-year old with miralax and forget to bring wipes.  i think it will be at least another 6 months before we venture back to the library.

the eventful library trip.
date night.  it's funny how reading magazines can be one of the best date nights, but it is.
ahh, morning coffee and a small reminder of san fran.
we start them young in water sports here.
yay, a small sign that fall is on the way...had to break out the uggs.

ms. mollie is very protective of her brothers.  she doesn't like to leave them for school.

the first day of school.

in some ways, the summer flew by.  in others, it dragged on and on.  i think the boys were ready to start school.  i know i was.  they (and the family!) needed some sort of consistent routine and they definitely required some time apart from each other.  they were pretty much getting on each others nerves at every moment.

each boy was excited to get dressed this morning (though miles was a bit sad he didn't have a uniform) and walk into their new classrooms.  i was a bit teary-eyed.  neither one of the boys seemed sad in the least.

it is hard to believe that ethan started kindergarten today!  i know he was ready for it and all of the learning and independence that comes with it.  miles didn't look back to the EC3 classroom of last year at all...he just marched right into pre-k and went right up to his teacher to work on spelling his name.

i think he looks so much like lance in this picture.
eager to get to work.
i am excited to hear about their first day this afternoon.

thursday instagram round-up

i will attempt to put in a few non-napa pictures this week, especially since there will be a post dedicated to my trip, hopefully in the near future.

cannot get enough of the pigtails!
why yes, i traveled (alone) with a batman carry-on.
obligatory duck face from girls trip...may have just been my first duck face pic ever.  ;)
so serene.
vacation splurge: starbucks + a muffin!  yum.
apparently i'm a french baguette.  oddly enough, the description does seem to fit.
my first attempt at homemade pizza dough.  to be continued tonight with "make your own pizza night"

style file: cooling trend

san francisco is gloriously cool in the middle of summer.  i need to keep this in mind for next august.  there is absolutely no way i'd make it there year round with the cold and dampness, though a chatty taxi driver said that it is warmer in september and october than it is in august, something about wind direction.  i'm not sure i believe that.  it seemed wrong to have to wear a scarf, over a winter weight sweater, in the middle of the day in the sun.  but i was definitely not complaining.  a very nice change from almost melting in the sun here in oklahoma.  and it made me VERY excited for fall!

oversize boyfriend sweater, j.crew * scarf, h&m

weekend pretties.

in honor of a girls trip this weekend to napa valley, california, these are the things i have been looking at this past week.  will be a wonderful weekend spent with great friends.  cannot wait!

we will be going here our first day.  i will definitely be sampling the chocolate torte with salted caramel and hazelnut.  sounds divine.  the rest of our time will be spent in napa.  the rest

on fashion related notes.  bows must be very popular right now.  i love bows.  this t-shirt looks especially fun!  reminds me of this one that taylor swift wore a few years ago, which i loved also.  paired with a black or grey blazer could be work appropriate and with skinny jeans and bright heels could be great for a night out.

this stella & dot necklace just may be a fall purchase.  i love that you could wear it easily with crewneck sweaters and other cool weather attire.

oh my, he is so grown up.

it still seems crazy to me some days that i have three kids.  one of whom will be six, SIX?!, in a few short months.

he is my oldest boy.  my little rule follower.  my delegator.  he may not be the one who will snuggle up in your lap after a long day.  but he is the one who makes sure to take care of his little sister and brother, just the way his daddy taught him to.

our next few weeks before school starts will be busy with gathering last minute supplies, staying up late and sleeping in.  just trying to enjoy a few more days where we don't have to be up and out of the house by a certain time or have evenings filled with homework.

i am so proud of him and am excited for him to begin this new journey!  i know he is ready for it.

thursday instagram round-up

it's been a busy week.  celebrating miles' 4th birthday, mollie getting out of her crib, and having an actual crop we could eat picked from the garden.  that may have been the biggest news of all.

swimming with friends.
and she's out!  on her own.  the crib will soon be a distant memory.
he is looking so grown up these days!
first pedicure for miss mollie!  she loved it!  i did too.
my new favorite drink.  limonata.
my little water bugs.
i'm not a fan of tomatoes, go figure , it is the only thing that grew this year.
