the county fair

wow, what a difference from last year when the boys were too scared to try a lot of the rides.  they eagerly climbed onto everything without a second glance at us.
poor lance took one for the team and hopped on the roller coaster with the boys.
we did the obligatory animal viewing.
and we were all worn out and sad when we had to leave...

miss mollie walking

i promised a video of my sweet little girl walking a while back...and here it is finally.  i just bought her these adorable squeaky shoes and she is loving them.  she was also so excited to be playing with her big brothers in the burger king play place.

our summer in pictures: making crayons

our latest summer activity was making rainbow crayons.  unfortunately i didn't catch on to the fact that in order to melt the crayons you would need to take the paper off.  so sadly i didn't have that prepped in advance.  the only one of the kids that lasted through all of it was ethan.  taking paper off crayons is harder than i remembered!  they were both excited when they were in the oven and when they were completed.  and it was a perfect thing to take to their show and tells the next day.

farewell summer

we had a blast, but we are looking forward to cooler weather, football, pumpkins, s'mores and candy corn. even though i am still slowly completing our summer fun list and my layouts, i am gearing up for a fun-filled fall.

healthy living - giving it a try!

i'm on a healthy kick.  i hope it keeps up, this is not at all my normal method of eating.  by healthy i mean i've fully given up my chocolate chip frozen waffle diet.  and if you have seen me at any time in the past 8 months, you will know that giving up my frozen waffles (smothered in butter) is a big deal.  i am sure i mentioned how much i loved frozen waffles at least once a day.  i am not consuming any tofu, nor will i give up my whole milk.  but it is a start at least.

i've been working out a this amazing gym for the past 3 weeks.  i love it.  i actually like to workout.  i go three days a week.  it is actually a break from work, kids, keeping a house.  i work out with a small group of women with a trainer.  we are all different ages and stages of fitness, but everyone is happy to be there and encouraging.  it is perfect and i see myself keeping it for quite a while.

i've decided to attempt more healthy eating.  plus i've signed up for a fitness challenge through the gym.  it starts september 10th.  you basically make personal goals for yourself and get points for doing certain things (losing body fat, weight, eating healthy, not missing workouts, etc) and then there are winners of the contest.  i am by no means thinking i would win, i am just excited about having a challenge and keeping track of my personal goals.

anyway, with my healthy eating, i've been trying all sorts of new recipes.  i have exchanged homemade granola bars for my frozen waffles in the morning and as a snack.  i am also looking for other options that the kids (and lance) would be more excited about.  i am still working out how to make a dinner when i get home from work and 3 kids are screaming about one thing or the other.  i haven't quite figured out how to fit that all in.  one thing at a time though.  i hope i can start keeping track of some of my favorite (healthier) recipes here.

if you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share, please do!

being crafty: the a-frame tent

this tent has been on my to-do craft list for a while.  i wanted to make one as a gift for a friend and that was just the right boost to get me going.

i am not handy with tools at all.  i wish i was, but i'm not.  so thankfully lowe's had the wood pieces already cut to the size that i needed.  i picked up the twin size sheet at wal-mart.  they didn't have a ton of designs, so i tried to pick something fun.  turned out the vertical stripes were perfect for this project.
it took about 2.5 hours total to get everything together and that was for two tents.  i did the sewing earlier in the week and lance and the boys used the tools last night.  we set it up so the boys could find it this morning.  they loved it.  hopefully this weekend we will do a mini-camp out inside, complete with s'mores...though they'll be made on our stove since there has been a burn ban most of the summer.
